What is the cost of living in L.A.?

im 21, thinking about moving to L.A. for awhile. I don't plan on living in luxury, probably just a 1 room apartment somewhere. How much would i expect to pay? is san fran any cheaper? how about san diego or laguna beach(probably expensive)?
